Top Sights in Macedonia

Macedonia attracts a lot of tourists who visit the Western Balkans for a few days or longer. There are lots of things to do in this country, whether you are travelling solo or have friends or family with you. The Sveti Naum monastery in Ohrid is just one of the interesting attractions in the country that people of all ages can enjoy.

There’s plenty of delicious food to eat in Macedonia, especially in the Old Bazaar and the water quality is quite high so you can drink straight from the tap. When you choose to enjoy alcohol, you can make a selection from a number of affordable, locally-produced wines such as Tikves, which are rarely seen outside of the Balkans.

Things to do in Skopje

There are lots of statues and monuments in Skopje and most of them are relativity new. Most represent important historical figures in Macedonia. The following are just a few of the statues which may be viewed by art lovers who visit the city:

If you like shopping or are looking for a good place to get mementos of your trip, you should stop by the bazaar in Skopje. It is one of the largest in the Balkans and is almost as big as the major bazaar in Istanbul. You will find a number of territorial buildings there which reflect the country’s culture. Churches, mosques, a clock tower and old school are all a part of the landscape at the Skopje bazaar.

Free Attractions in Macedonia: Visit Suto Orizari
 
Skopje, Macedonia has one of the largest Roma communities in the world. The Roma people in Skopje live in Suto Orizari and while they speak Romani, you will find that you can get around in the community fairly easily if you speak English. The community hosts events which showcase Roma culture, such as weddings. 

The municipality is also known as Shutka and one of the biggest attractions there is the variety of markets that are hosted by Roma people. Shutka has been compared to the Bronx, New York becuase of the interesting experience that it offers to visitors.

Free Attractions in Macedonia: See The Ancient Ruins in Bitola

The ruins in Bitola are just one of many other interesting free attractions in Macedonia. The city ruins are known as Heraclea Lyncestis and the walls feature well-preserved mosaics. The country is a great place to visit if you love the outdoors and you can enjoy national parks, lakes and other novel attractions without paying.
