We're quickly approaching flu season (or are we already in it? I can never remember). If you're like me that means you'll be checking temperatures like a crazy person anytime someone says they don't feel good. I also have a baby about to start popping teeth any day now, and I don't care what the doctors say....teething and fevers do go together.
Now, I'm sorry. I love my kids. And I want to know what's going on with their bodies. But I'm not about to stick a thermometer up their rear. It's just not gonna happen. When my oldest was a baby, I checked her temps by sticking the thermometer under her armpit. Pretty good, but not quite as reliable as the ole rear. When my middle child came along technology was a bit more advanced. I got one of those fancy ear thermometers. But did you know they aren't very reliable either, until the baby reaches about six months old?
By the time my third baby came along, temple thermometers had hit the market. When MomSelect offered me the chance to try one I said, "yes please", because I'm all about making this temperature taking thing easier on me (and the kids...seriously..nobody wants a poke in the tush when they're sick, right?!). MomSelect sent me the Temple Touch Thermometer by ReliOn.
It's a pretty straight forward device. You touch the tip to your child's temple and it gives you their temp in about six seconds. I used it on all of us, big and small. And I compared the readings to my old faithful ear thermometer. The only time I had a discrepancy was when I tried to get a temp reading on Savannah while she was eating. The instructions say that temperature can be affected by drinking, so I guess that was the issue. The Temple Touch is super easy to use, nice and fast, and appears reliable. Sounds good to me!
**WIN IT**
I have one Temple Touch Thermometer to give away, thanks to MomSelect. To make things a little fun, I'm bringing it with me to the Type-A Mom Conference, so be sure to find me if you want to win!!
Keeping it real: I was given the Temple Touch Thermometer by MomSelect in order to do this review. MomSelect also provided the second Temple Touch for me to give away.

I have an Exergen Temporal Artery Scanner and I love it! (I also love that after 3+ years of use, it still works fantastically). I'd be interested in trying one of these but the 6 seconds makes me leery. The Exergen takes about 2, max. Sometimes that's a bit long. Having to keep a squirmy, sick kid from moving enough to get a good read might be tough? what do you think?
and how much do these run?
The ReliON Temple Touch is around $10 at Wal Mart. A lot less than the $40+ Exergen unit.
The compnay also has a higher priced model with moere features that is sold at Walgreens under the Walgreens beand that is $29.
Hey Jen...like John said I think it runs around $10. As for six seconds being too long...that's about how long my ear thermometer takes. So I'm used to that. I can't imagine two seconds! That must be nice!!! But both are HUGE improvements over the 2-3 minutes with standard thermometers. Gah, those days were TORTURE!!!!
