My teen daughter has been snowboarding for years. I remember taking her to the slopes when she first started out, and watching her hobble around the bunny slope. She took lessons, and got braver as the years went by. Now, she does jumps and twists and flies down the mountain like a woman possessed. She's pretty bummed each year when the snow melts and the slopes close. She does a fair bit of skateboarding the rest of the year but it just isn't the same.
We were recently asked if we'd like to try out the Shred Sled. The Shred Sled combines skateboarding and snowboarding, so we were pretty excited to see what it was all about.
The Shred Sled has two decks, and each deck has four inline wheels. The decks revolve around a center axle, and are propelled by moving your hips and arms. Your feet never have to leave the deck, even when you go uphill! Since the Shred Sled has four inline wheels (as opposed to only two wheels, like similar caster boards), you get a smoother ride and a more stable experience overall.
My daughter says the Shred Sled isn't as easy to ride as she thought it would be, but it's easier than similar boards she's tried in the past.
She says it's difficult to find her balance, but once she does it's pretty easy to stay up.
Overall she enjoys the Shred Sled and feels confident she'll get the hang of it after more practice. Since she snowboards she's already familiar with the hip movements required for turns and whatnot.
You can see the Shred Sled in action in the video below.
As a mom, I appreciate that the Shred Sled gets my child's entire body involved. She's not just using her legs to push herself....she's using her hips, abs, back, and arms to propel the board forward. I also appreciate that the four inline wheels give the Shred Sled more stability over other caster boards.
I think the Shred Sled would be a fun item for any tween or teen (or even adult!!) who enjoys similar activities. If your child is already into skateboarding, snowboarding, or inline skating, I think they'd enjoy adding the Shred Sled to their collection.
The Shred Sled is available in black, red, and blue. It can be purchased online and retails for $119.
