A Mei tai, or Asian-inspired carrier, is a babywearing classic. Moms around the globe have used some version of a Mei Tai for many, many years. It's essentially a large rectangle of fabric with ties on each of the four corners. You tie the bottom of the Mei Tai around your waist, pop your baby in, then secure and tie the shoulder straps depending on which carry you're using. It's essential that your ties (or knots) are good and tight since they are what is keeping the Mei Tai secure on your body. You'll want to periodically check your ties while wearing a Mei Tai to ensure they're secure.
While pregnant with Savannah I knew I wanted a carrier that was easy to use, would fit both my husband and myself, and would work from newborn through toddler. I came across the Kozy Carrier and fell in love (plus, they have the CUTEST fabric selections of any carriers I've ever seen!). We started using the Kozy when Savannah was two-weeks-old. She preferred an upright carry and the Kozy was perfect for that. We folded the bottom of the fabric to shorten the body so she didn't get lost in extra fabric. The sturdy canvas-like material of the Kozy provided great head support as well, so she was quite snug in there. Now that she's a very large two-month-old, the Kozy is our go-to carrier. She's too big and long to stay in a cradle carry for very long, yet still needs good head support when in an upright position. The Kozy is the carrier she seems most supported and comfortable in right now, and it's super comfortable for us as well.
Kozy Carrier is a mom-owned company run by sisters Kelley and Kristi. They provide phenomenal customer service and are very helpful with any questions you may have about the Kozy. Their website has very detailed instructions for using the Kozy in all possible carrying positions. Kelley recently started a company blog focusing on all aspects of natural parenting, and trust me, she knows her stuff. She just gave birth (at home!) to her fifth baby!!
Kozy Carrier Stats
Possible carrying positions: front (facing in or out), back, hip
Weight range: Newborn and up. There is no upper weight limit established by Kozy. They say as long as your Kozy is in good condition, and both child and adult are comfortable, you should be fine!
Adjustable?: VERY! Can fit more than one adult (can be purchased with extra-long waist straps as well), and can be used from birth up!
C/Section friendly?: No. I wasn't able to use the Kozy until my incision was fully healed.
The Kozy can be purchased online starting at $79. Product purchased by blogger.
