Week In Review

I certainly didn't intend to skip a week of blogging. But life has a way of taking over, especially during the holidays! We had our nephew staying with us from Sunday through Wednesday. You wouldn't think an 8-year-old could put a stop to our normal household routines....but you'd be very mistaken! This particular 8-year-old did, and in a BIG way. He was an angel the first day, but quickly showed his true colors. He ended up being so mean towards my 2-year-old that I couldn't leave them alone. Which meant nothing got done except me sitting on the couch with an Eagle Eye. Especially heartwarming is the fact that his Dad never even thanked us for keeping him. Moving on.....

Thursday was spent getting my house back in order. My brother-in-law is a cop and had to work Thanksgiving, so we didn't have a turkey dinner that day. I was half-tempted to book a last minute flight and go have dinner with my family, but reason won out.

Friday we decided to brave the Black Friday crowds. We went to a Christmas Made In The South craft show, then to the mall. It was surprisingly not crowded! We weren't searching for any deals or bargains...we mostly went just to see the decorations and Christmas stuff. It was a great day....Aiden didn't fuss a single time! YES! And the BEST part of Black Friday? The Scrooges who complain about Christmas stuff being up before Thanksgiving will finally STOP YAPPING!!

Saturday was our Thanksgiving dinner. Finally. My brother-in-law and his girlfriend arrived an hour later than they said they would, so we were all STARVING......but the food was delish once we were able to eat!! My contribution was sweet potatoes, frosted cut-out cookies (I used pumpkin, leaf, and turkey cookie cutters), and pumpkin whoopie pies.

If you've come here looking for the latest Daring Bakers Challenge....I'm no longer a Daring Baker. I had a really fun year with the group, but I realized that I wasn't baking anything *I* wanted to bake anymore. I have stacks and stacks of elaborate desserts that I want to make, but I never got around to any of them because I saved my big baking day (and money) for the Daring Bakers Challenge each month. After lots of thought, I decided that was kind of silly....so I left the group. Now I'll be able to focus on the baking I want to do, and I'm pretty excited about that!

Don't forget that today is the last day to enter my giveaway. Just comment on the giveaway post and you're entered!

I'll be back to normal blogging tomorrow...Hope you had a fantastic Turkey Day!

You are brave for going out on Black Friday! And I have thought the same thing with the DB - I only made a mini cake and ended up throwing half of it out. I felt terrible. I'm guessing I'll have to let some things go once the baby is here anyway. I'm having a hard time keeping up with everything already, and she's not even here yet!!

You know what sealed the deal with DB for me? Aiden's birthday. I had already picked out his cake MONTHS ahead. But when the November challenge was announced I thought, "Well, I guess he'll have Caramel Cake instead". It bothered me for weeks...because I wanted to make the original cake, but I couldn't justify two big cakes! I finally realized I needed to bake what *I* want to bake. I'm sad to miss out on the super secret info and stuff, but I think it's for the best...for me anyway :-) Besides, I can still see the challenges on posting day, and get the recipes if I really want to make them!
